Monument to a Friendship

Monument to a Friendship was a collaborative work that took place daily during the Proposals for Monuments exhibition at the Prima Center Berlin. A section of the gallery was turned into a studio space where I and my good friend and artist, Dimitar Hristov, who lives and works in Berlin, painted each other during the course of the exhibition each day at the same time for two and a half hours.
Large numbers of Macedonian youth have left their country due to economic and political crisis, lack of opportunity, and cultural isolation. Young people are scattered around the globe in search for better life. Both Hristov and I grew up together but now live on two different continents and rarely have a chance to see each other. This work commemorates our long lasting friendship and is an opportunity to revisit the past and engage in a new conversation.
