God of War

God of War is a cut-out figure with an elongated nose made of recycled, hand printed, etchings on rice paper that I've created over the past five years. The etchings have been cut out, arranged and glued, submerged into hot wax then ironed and folded over to create a skin-like material. The monolith can be folded and unfolded so it can be easily traveled with and installed in a variety of exhibitions and performances. The figure's presence - comic and terrible at the same time - constantly changes within the broader context of how or where it is installed. This work initially was in response to a series of recorded phone conversations of leading government officials in the Republic of Macedonia, made public in 2015. The conversations revealed the ominous reality of widespread corruption. The God of War monolith is further contextualized by my long lasting fascination with the eponymous character in Berthed Brecht's poem written in 1938.
God of War, twenty-three etchings printed on rice paper, cut, glued and sealed with beeswax. Installed at Magaza - Museum and Institute of Bitola, Republic of Macedonia. 110x90", 2015. This work was designed so it can be folded into a 18x18" square.
